Located in the Central Coast region 45 minutes from the Pacific ocean and an hour south of Silicon Valley, the county of San Benito is 1,389 square miles and home to the cities of Hollister; the county seat (population 36,599) and San Juan Bautista (population 1,900+); where one of the historic California Missions was built. The quaint towns & communities of Aromas, Tres Pinos, Paicines and New Idria make up the rest of San Benito County bringing the county population over 55,000. The area is beautifully framed by the Gabilan coastal and the Diablo mountain ranges to the east and west and the vast Panoche Valley to the south. The mild weather, open spaces, affordable & quality living is what attracts many to the area to live, work and play.
Housing choices can be from the historic downtown area with wonderful homes built over 100 years ago to stylish new single family residences. Rentals are limited as well as senior housing but with many housing developments in various stages of construction, options are increasing, providing additional housing options to meet California’s increasing demand.
Twelve school districts provide families a quality education no matter where they reside. Several private, religious and charter schools round out worthy options to consider. Gavilan Community College offers numerous courses at their downtown Hollister campus as well as at their main campus in Gilroy or the many on-line classes they offer.
The area is protected by the Hollister Fire Department with 2 stations (a third in the planning stages), the San Juan Bautista volunteer fire department, and CalFire Hollister. Law enforcement is provided by the Hollister Police and County Sheriff Departments. Free libraries are available in Hollister and San Juan Bautista, both offering many programs, public computers and of course, books.
Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital offers most medical services at their state of the art Level 3 facility or at one of their 5 clinics located in key locations throughout the county. The area is also served by San Benito Health Foundation Community Health Center offering medical, dental and WIC services at their main location or at their San Juan Bautista Clinic. A third option is the Pinnacle Urgent Care which is open daily for residents and visitors medical needs. CalStar provides aerial medical transportation to trauma centers. There are 6 pharmacies, all located in Hollister.

Thousands of businesses are located in San Benito County. From large manufacturing and agriculture companies like Corbin, Pacific Scientific, West Marine, Ozeki Sake, San Benito Foods, Earthbound Farms/White Wave, Marich Confectionary and Graniterock to name-brand stores for shopping such as Ace Hardware, Walgreens and Radio Shack. Many small businesses provide casual to fine dining restaurants, shopping, wineries, produce stands, services and so much more throughout the county.
The county is rich in land available for additional business development at competitive prices and is served by major California highways, a rail line (non-passenger) and of one the few remaining executive airports in the country. Pinnacle National Park, championship golf courses, sky diving and glider rides over beautiful agriculture landscapes, birding, cycling, geological walks along the Calavaras and San Andreas fault lines, hunting and geocaching are just a few examples of what San Benito County’s great outdoors has to offer.
The public parks are plentiful in San Benito County. The largest is America’s newest national park: Pinnacles National Park, which provides camping, climbing and hiking to mention just a few parks. There are San Juan Bautista’s State Historic Park and Fremont Peak, the San Benito County Historic Park, Bolado Park and Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area. Many smaller city & county parks are available for play, events and sports.
